6/2/08
I just finished my walk with it 68 outside and 54% humidity. It seems like a good time to blog while I'm cooling off. It will be a quick house cleaning today since I did major stuff last week and the dogs haven't been inside. Then it will be on to sewing.
The trench is coming along great. It is almost finished - need to attach the hem facings and topstitch only 20 times, put 8 rows of shirring in the waist and attach who knows how many snaps. Ok -maybe half way finished.
I mastered Hong Kong seams and really like the finish. On the seams that were pressed open, I cut bias strips 1" and with right sides together I used the width of the presser foot and moved the needle 3 positions to the right to join. After pressing, I used the #10 topstitch foot (Bernina) to stitch in the ditch. It worked great and there was no trimming. For the bound seams, I cut the bias strips to 1 1/2".
More introductions to our household: the first picture is Tigger and her name fits. She is a little monkey and loves to be everywhere. She has a basket in a chair in the sewing room and most days when I'm there, she is curled up in her basket. The next picture is Max and Boo. Max is an older cat - we're not sure how old because he adopted us about 10 years ago. He was skin and bones and had been abused. As you can tell we have added a lot of "fluff " to him and he is well loved. Tigger & Boo were adopted from the humane society. Boo is a scaredy cat as his name reflects. He is also diabetic and gets insulin shots twice per day. He doesn't mind them and he gets tuna at the same time - well, actually all the cats get tuna since I can't play favorites ;)
